Classification used here: Ceratopsian dinosaur. Fossils assigned to Triceratops are known from Late Cretaceous (about 68–66 million years ago) and have been found in North America (United States and Canada). The museum uses 8–9 m (about 26–30 ft) as the reference body length and describes the diet as plant-eater. Triceratops was a ceratopsian dinosaur. The front of its mouth formed a beak, while the teeth further back helped it process plants. Its three striking horns and broad frill may have helped with display, recognising members of the same species or protection, but no single purpose is treated as the only answer.
